What is the dispensation of Law?
The fifth dispensation, from Sinai to the cross (Exod 20-Acts 1). God governed Israel by the Mosaic law; the nation failed repeatedly to keep it, ending in the rejection of the Messiah, and the judgment came in the dispersion and in the cross itself.
What the text states
The stewardship was the law, given at Sinai, "the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ" (Gal 3:24). Its purpose was never to save but to reveal sin: "by the law is the knowledge of sin" (Rom 3:20). Israel failed to keep it across the whole Old Testament, the prophets are the record of the failure, and the period closed with the nation rejecting and crucifying its Messiah. The law was fulfilled and its condemning power ended at the cross: "Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth" (Rom 10:4).
