“I make peace, and create evil” (Isaiah 45:7). Does God author sin? No. And the verse says so if you read the line He wrote. Look at the parallel. “I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil.” Light against darkness. Peace against evil. The Hebrew sets shalom opposite ra, and shalom is welfare, prosperity, wholeness. Its opposite is not wickedness. Its opposite is calamity. The verse pairs prosperity with disaster, not righteousness with sin.

God answered Moses from the burning bush with a name that is just the verb “to be”: I AM. Fifteen hundred years later, a carpenter stood in the temple and said “Before Abraham was, I am.” The crowd picked up stones. They knew exactly what He had claimed. A reading of Exodus 3 and John 8 on the self-existent God who came down to reach a fugitive.
