What happened at Philippi in the Bible?

The first place in Europe where the gospel was preached, and the first church on the continent. Here the jailer asked the plainest question in the Bible, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" (Acts 16:30), and received the plainest answer: "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved" (16:31).
