What happened at Caesarea in the Bible?

The Roman coastal capital, and the door the gospel went through to the Gentiles. Here Peter preached to Cornelius and learned what the church has been relearning ever since: "Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons" (Acts 10:34). Years later Paul was held prisoner in this same city and made his defense before governors and a king.
