What happened at Athens in the Bible?

A city of philosophers and idols, where Paul was brought up to the Areopagus, Mars' hill, to answer for his teaching. There he preached the God the Athenians had marked with an altar but did not know, the God who "now commandeth all men every where to repent" (Acts 17:30).
