What is the gospel? What is the good news of Jesus Christ?
The gospel is the good news that Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again the third day (1 Cor 15:3-4), so that whosoever believes on Him is forgiven and given eternal life. "God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son" (John 3:16).
What the text states
Paul defines it: "Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and... he was buried, and... he rose again the third day" (1 Cor 15:3-4). The bad news it answers is that "all have sinned" (Rom 3:23) and "the wages of sin is death" (Rom 6:23). The good news is that God provided the payment in His Son and offers it freely: "the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ" (Rom 6:23), received by faith, "believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved" (Acts 16:31). It is offered to everyone, "whosoever will" (Rev 22:17), and it is the whole reason this site exists.
