What is the baptism of the Holy Spirit?
The Spirit placing every believer into the body of Christ at salvation: "by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body" (1 Cor 12:13). Once, to all believers, at conversion.
What the text states
Paul says "all" believers are baptized by the Spirit into one body (1 Cor 12:13), not a second experience for some. Distinct from this is the filling of the Spirit (Eph 5:18), repeated and commanded, and the empowering for service in Acts. Calvary Chapel distinguishes being born of the Spirit, baptized by the Spirit into the body, and the Spirit coming upon a believer for power, without making any a proof of salvation.
Classical Pentecostalism teaches a post-conversion Spirit-baptism evidenced by tongues. We hold Spirit-baptism into the body is universal and at conversion, while affirming a subsequent empowering not evidenced by any single gift.
