David Rosales
Calvary Chapel Chino Valley · Chino, California
Pastor of Calvary Chapel Chino Valley, which he began in 1981, and the Calvary Chapel Association's region leader for San Bernardino, north Riverside and southern Nevada. His daily programme A Sure Foundation is carried across the country.
Life
He was born on 23 August 1950 and grew up through the 1960s. His church's biography is plain about what those years were: “Considering himself a by-product of the ‘love’ generation and a fringe member of the hippie movement, David spent more than five years involved in drug and alcohol abuse in the late sixties. In early 1970, at the age of 20, David nearly overdosed on a combination of wine and barbiturates. When he awoke, he was paralyzed and lying on his back in a drug stupor. It was at this time that David called out to God to spare his life.”
“When I look back at those years it seems like another lifetime,” says Pastor David. “That’s why today, I am actively involved in the community and trying to reach people where they are at. This world is full of troubled, tired, and hurt people. God loves them and so do I. That’s what this ministry is all about. We want people to see that God is in the business of changing lives.”
After attending a Maranatha! concert he gave his heart to Jesus Christ in December of 1970. He went into the Army, spending 21 months of active duty with the 82nd Airborne Division, and on discharge began pursuing an education in theology. He attended Biola College and soon began to teach home Bible studies.
He was ordained in 1979 and worked full time for a small church in Claremont, California, before beginning a new church in July of 1981 called Calvary Ontario. In January of 1982 he received a letter from Pastor Chuck Smith of Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa welcoming the church as a Calvary Chapel affiliate. The congregation moved from homes to a rented church to school auditoriums, and in 1992 over 12 acres of land were purchased in Chino. That became the home of Calvary Chapel Chino Valley.
He pastors over 6,000 members, teaches Bible studies through the week, and is supported in ministry by his wife Marie. They have four grown children and twelve grandchildren. His radio ministry, A Sure Foundation, is broadcast daily throughout the nation. He has travelled to countries across the world, evangelizing and teaching the Bible in a simple verse-by-verse style.
Within the Association he is region leader for San Bernardino, north Riverside and southern Nevada.

What he teaches
God. We believe in one personal, transcendent, and holy God, the creator of all, Who is eternal, and Who manifests Himself in three separate persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (Genesis 1:1 / John 10:30 / Deuteronomy 6:4)
Jesus. We believe that Jesus Christ, though fully God, became a man for the suffering of death, that He is the promised Messiah, born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, provided for the atonement of our sins by His vicarious death on the Cross, was bodily resurrected by the power of the Holy Spirit, ascended back to the right hand of God the Father, and ever lives to make intercession for us. After Jesus ascended to Heaven, He poured out His Holy Spirit on the believers in Jerusalem, enabling them to fulfill His command to preach the Gospel to the entire world, an obligation shared by all believers today. (Isaiah 7:14 / Mark 16:19)
Holy Spirit. We believe in the person and work of the Holy Spirit who indwells, seals, and empowers every believer, baptizing them into the Body of Christ. We further believe that the Holy Spirit will come upon any believer who asks in faith, enabling him/her to preach the Gospel in power. We also believe all of the gifts of the Holy Spirit mentioned in the Scriptures are valid for today if they are exercised within the scriptural guidelines. We believe that love is more important than all the gifts, and without this love all exercise of spiritual gifts is worthless. (John 16:7-11 / Acts 1:8)
Bible. We believe in the inerrancy of Scripture, that the Bible, Old and New Testaments, in the original autographs, is the inspired, infallible Word of God, a complete and final written revelation of God. We seek the Word of God in such a way that its message can be applied to an individual’s life, leading that person to greater maturity in Christ. We reject doctrinal viewpoints or spiritual phenomena which are based solely on experience. We look to the Word of God for the basis of all our faith and practice. (2 Timothy 3:15-17 / Peter 1:21 / John 17:17)
The Church. We believe the only true basis of Christian fellowship is Christ’s (Agape) love, which is greater than any differences we possess, and without which we have no right to claim ourselves Christians. We believe Jesus Christ is the head of the Body, His church, and that church government should be simplistic rather than a complex bureaucracy. We desire to be lead by the Holy Spirit in all the functions and directions of the ministry of the church. (Acts 2:42 - 47 / Romans 12:4-5)
Salvation. We believe that all people are by nature separated from God and responsible for their own sin, but that salvation, redemption, and forgiveness are freely offered to all by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. When a person repents of sin and accepts Jesus Christ as personal Savior and Lord, trusting Him to save, that person is immediately born again and sealed by the Holy Spirit, all his/her sins are forgiven, and that person becomes a child of God. (Acts 4:12 / Romans 10:9 / Ephesians 2:8-9)
Worship. We believe worship of God should be spiritual. Therefore, we remain flexible and yielded to the leading of the Holy Spirit to direct our worship. We believe worship of God should be inspirational. Therefore, we give a great place to music in our worship. We believe worship of God should be intelligent. Therefore, our services are designed with great emphasis upon teaching of the Word of God that He might instruct us how He should be worshiped. We believe worship of God should be fruitful. Therefore, we look for His love in our lives as the supreme manifestation that we have been truly worshiping Him. (John 4:24 / Psalm 96:9 / Psalm 145:2)
