John Nelson Darby · Synopsis of the Books of the Bible
Darby's chapter-by-chapter commentary on all 66 books. Public domain. Written by the father of modern dispensationalism: the man whose literal reading of Scripture and recovery of the Israel/Church distinction shaped the entire evangelical prophetic tradition.
About Darby's Synopsis
The Synopsis of the Books of the Bible (5 volumes, 1857–1862) is Darby's most sustained biblical work: chapter-by-chapter commentary on every book of Scripture. It is not verse-by-verse but thematic: each chapter receives a flowing theological treatment tracing the scope, connection, and the Spirit's intention in that passage.
Darby writes from a dispensational premillennial perspective with particular clarity on the distinction between Israel and the Church, the nature of the Church as a heavenly body, and the literal fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy. His influence on Scofield, Bullinger, Moody, and the entire prophetic Bible conference movement is direct and documented.
