What happened at Capernaum in the Bible?

Jesus made this fishing town on the Sea of Galilee His own base, "he came and dwelt in Capernaum" (Matt 4:13), and did more mighty works here than anywhere. Which is why its judgment was the heaviest: "thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell" (Matt 11:23). Light refused is darker than light never seen.
