What happens to those who have never heard the gospel?
Scripture does not detail every case, but it reveals God's character toward them: He "will have all men to be saved" (1 Tim 2:4), is "not far from every one of us" (Acts 17:27), and judges justly. He sends the messenger to the seeking heart.
What the text states
God "hath made of one blood all nations of men... that they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him" (Acts 17:26-27). Creation testifies to every person (Rom 1:20) and conscience to every person (Rom 2:14-15), so no one is without witness. And whenever Scripture shows someone reaching toward God from outside the covenant, God sends a messenger: Cornelius got Peter (Acts 10), the Ethiopian got Philip (Acts 8). "Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?" (Gen 18:25). What Scripture never says is that anyone was destined never to hear.
Calvinism holds that God passes over the non-elect and is under no obligation to reach them; some hold the unevangelized are simply lost. We hold that God's revealed desire is the salvation of all, that His justice is perfect toward those who truly never had access, and that His pattern is to send the gospel to the one who seeks.
