What is the dispensation of Promise?
The fourth dispensation, from Abraham to Sinai (Gen 12-Exod 19). God called Abraham and governed by promise, the Abrahamic covenant; the family failed by leaving the land for Egypt and bondage, and the arrangement gave way to the Law.
What the text states
The stewardship was to believe and dwell in the promises given to Abraham: land, seed, and blessing (Gen 12:1-3). The covenant was unconditional, sealed when God alone passed between the pieces while Abraham slept (Gen 15). The failure: the patriarchs drifted to Egypt and the nation ended in slavery. At Sinai the people chose law over promise, "all that the LORD hath spoken we will do" (Exod 19:8), accepting a conditional covenant. The promise was never revoked; it runs underneath everything and is fulfilled in Christ (Gal 3:16-18).
