The Tabernacle

“According to all that I shew thee, after the pattern of the tabernacle, and the pattern of all the instruments thereof, even so shall ye make it.”Exodus 25:9 · KJV

“Let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them” (Exod 25:8). God moved into the camp: not a temple on a height they climbed to, but a tent pitched among theirs, fire at the gate, glory over the roof, made “after the pattern” shown on the mountain because the tent was a picture of something. John names it: “the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us” (John 1:14), and the verb is eskēnōsen, pitched His tent.

The court had one gate, and it faced east (Exod 27:13-16), toward the rising sun and away from the way back to Egypt. Every Israelite from every tribe came in through the same opening, past the same altar, and there was no second door. Jesus said the tabernacle’s own word: “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved” (John 10:9). One gate, open on the side the whole camp could reach.
