The Door of the Ark

“A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it.”Genesis 6:16 · KJV

“I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.”John 10:9 · KJV

God told Noah to build one door in the side of the ark, and one window above. Everyone who was saved from the flood went in through the same single door.

“And the LORD shut him in” (Gen 7:16). Noah did not close the door; God did, from the outside, and it stayed shut for a year. One door, one ark, no second way in, and the shutting was God's act, not Noah's. Jesus said the tabernacle's word and the ark's word together: “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved” (John 10:9). The door was open the whole time it was being built, a hundred and twenty years of preaching (2 Pet 2:5, “a preacher of righteousness”), and it shut only when the rain began.
