The Kinsman-Redeemer
Boaz does not know what he is a picture of. He is just doing what the law of kinship redemption requires. But the entire structure of what he does: seeing someone who cannot redeem herself, paying the price she cannot pay, bringing her into his family, is doing something in the canon that the rest of the Bible will take a very long time to fully name. The go'el (kinsman-redeemer) is one of the OT's most compressed theological pictures: redemption requires a qualified relative, willing to pay the cost, able to complete the transaction.
