The Hearing Chain and the Universal Invitation
Romans 10 is the clearest statement of the universal scope and genuine conditions of salvation in the Pauline letters. The hearing chain (preaching, hearing, believing, calling, saving) is linear and requires genuine human response at every link. Faith comes by hearing. Hearing requires a real person genuinely attending to real content. The invitation is universal: everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Paul cites Joel 2:32, the same Joel passage Peter quoted at Pentecost. The whosoever of Joel is the everyone of Romans 10.
