Return to the Lord
Joel 2 contains two of the most important texts for Thread 1 and Thread 7. First, the divine self-announcement: he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, abounding in steadfast love: the echo of Exodus 34. Second, the universal invitation: whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered. Peter quotes this at Pentecost. Paul quotes it in Romans 10:13. Joel's text is the OT foundation for the NT's universal offer of salvation. The scope is explicitly unlimited: whosoever.
