Sinning Deliberately After Receiving the Truth
Hebrews 10:26-27 is the second of the major warning passages, and it reinforces Hebrews 6 with equal force. The person in view has received the knowledge of the truth: genuine knowledge, not merely intellectual exposure. And is sinning deliberately against it: hekousios, willfully, voluntarily, with full awareness. The two elements together (received truth and deliberate sin against it) constitute the condition the author is warning against. The warning is pastoral, addressed directly to the community, because real people in it are in real danger of making this real choice.
