The Latter Glory Greater Than the Former
God promises that the latter glory of this house shall be greater than the former. The returned community is looking at a small, modest structure compared to Solomon's temple and feeling the disappointment. The promise is not aesthetic: it is eschatological. The glory that will fill this house will be the Lord Himself coming to his temple (Malachi 3:1). Thread 3: the story moving toward a King points through Haggai's modest Second Temple to the moment when the King walks through its courts.
