The Nail-Faith Answer
The righteous shall live by his faith. Four Hebrew words. Paul builds the entire letter to the Romans on this sentence. He quotes it again in Galatians 3:11. The writer of Hebrews quotes it a third time in Hebrews 10:38. The emunah of Habakkuk 2:4 is not a one-time act of intellectual assent: it is faithfulness, steadfastness, ongoing trust. The righteous person does not live by explanation. Does not live by resolved circumstances. Lives by this: emunah. Sustained trust through the waiting. Three NT letters. Three citations of the same four-word sentence from a prophet who was angry and confused, and did not leave.
