The Story Worth Retelling
1 Chronicles was written for people who had already lost everything. The exile is over. The people have returned to the land. But Jerusalem is rubble, the temple is gone, and the Davidic monarchy has not been restored. The question pressing on every family that walked back from Babylon: does any of this still mean something? The Chronicler answers with nine chapters of genealogy: from Adam to the sons of David. Not administrative records. A thread map. The story did not start with the exile and it did not end there. The covenant with David is still in force.
