What is the battle of Armageddon?
Armageddon is the final gathering of the world's armies against Israel at the end of the tribulation, in the valley of Megiddo, crushed by Christ at His return (Rev 16:16, 19:11-21).
What the text states
"He gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon" (Rev 16:16), Har-Megiddo, the hill of Megiddo in the Jezreel valley. The nations mass against Jerusalem (Zech 14:2), and Christ returns to destroy them: "out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations" (Rev 19:15). It is less a battle than an execution; the outcome is never in doubt. It ends the tribulation and precedes the millennial reign.
(Symbolic readings treat Armageddon as a spiritual conflict, not a literal event. We hold it a literal future battle at a real location, ended by Christ's literal return.)
