What does the Bible say about homosexuality? Is it a sin?
The Bible consistently identifies homosexual practice as sin (Rom 1:26-27, 1 Cor 6:9-11), as it does all sex outside the marriage of one man and one woman. It also holds out the same hope to everyone: "such were some of you: but ye are washed" (1 Cor 6:11). The sin is real; so is the grace.
What the text states
Scripture addresses it in both Testaments (Lev 18:22, Rom 1:26-27, 1 Cor 6:9, 1 Tim 1:10), always as one sin among many that fall short of God's design for sex, which is the covenant of one man and one woman (Gen 2:24, Matt 19:4-6). But the same passage that names it also names the deliverance: "and such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified" (1 Cor 6:11), which means people came out of it into Christ. The Bible does not single this sin out as unforgivable or worse than others; it calls every person, of every struggle, to the same Savior. The truth is spoken not to condemn but because the gospel is real, and no sin is beyond the blood of Christ.
Affirming readings argue the texts address exploitation or idolatry, not committed same-sex relationships. We hold the historic reading because the prohibition is grounded in creation (Gen 2:24, Matt 19:4-6), not culture, while affirming that the gospel welcomes and transforms anyone who comes.
