What is the judgment seat of Christ (the bema)?
The judgment seat of Christ is where believers are evaluated for rewards, not condemnation, after the rapture. "We must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body" (2 Cor 5:10). It decides rewards, not salvation.
What the text states
The Greek is bema, the raised platform where a judge awarded prizes at the games, not a criminal court. Believers' works are tried "by fire": "if any man's work abide... he shall receive a reward. If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved" (1 Cor 3:14-15). Salvation is never at stake here, only reward and loss. The crowns that can be won, and withheld, are decided at the bema (2 Tim 4:8, 1 Pet 5:4). This is distinct from the Great White Throne, where the lost are judged.
(Some blur the bema with a judgment that could threaten a believer's standing. We hold, with the text, that the believer "himself shall be saved" regardless of the works' outcome, which is why it is rewards, not condemnation.)
