How do you explain the Trinity? Is the Trinity biblical?
One God who exists eternally as three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The word is not in the Bible, but every part of the doctrine is: one God, and three who are each fully God.
What the text states
Built from sentences that are there. One God: "the LORD our God is one LORD" (Deut 6:4). The Father is God (1 Pet 1:2), the Son is God ("the Word was God," John 1:1; "my Lord and my God," John 20:28), the Spirit is God (lying to the Spirit is lying to God, Acts 5:3-4). The three are distinct: at the baptism the Son is in the water, the Spirit descends, the Father speaks (Matt 3:16-17). Not three gods, not one person in three modes, but one God in three persons, deduced by good and necessary consequence from what Scripture states.
Modalism collapses the three into one person in three masks; Arianism and the Witnesses deny the Son's full deity. We hold the historic doctrine because Scripture affirms both the oneness of God and the full deity and distinctness of the three.
